Review | The Original Beauty Blender

The Original Beauty Blender : A must-have holy-grail Beauty Product
Check out the Beauty Blender website here!

Ladies, I have to be honest with you.  I have purchased this product 4 times already since the product came out last 2013.  And I seriously cannot live without it now.  So the photos below are actually my newest Beauty Blenders but I threw in a photo with the one I am still currently using so you will see the life span of it and all.

Where I bought my Beauty Blenders : Sephora.com for $39.95 for two that comes with a lavender based cleanser (My friend who came home from the US just brought it with her so I can save on shipping) and I wanted to make sure I didn't get a dupe or a fake one.

LADIES BEWARE: I have experienced getting a fake one from a local online store, and the packaging was very similar to the original packaging from the one I got from Sephora.  It was pretty freaky on how well they copied the packaging and the look of the Beauty Blender, but when it came down to the touch and feel of the sponge, it was completely different.  The fake one once you dip it into water, becomes like a "Clay" feel type of sponge, that is rather hard to squeeze.  The authentic one however fades a bit after you wash it with water, but is so light that it is quite bouncy when you squeeze it (like a light chiffon cake)

I did however try to use the fake one, but started to break out, and after 2 weeks of trying it out, I realized that even if I regularly washed it, the material it was made of made it hard to expel all the water in it, hence it started to mold. (Yuck.)  Tiny black spots started to appear, and it cannot be washed out.  So I do not recommend buying fake or dupes that are made with the 'clayish' type of foam (it is very much like a memory foam).

So what exactly is a Beauty Blender?

This is what it looks like inside:

This is what it looks like alone: (You can purchase this individually or it comes in twos like this one)

The Beauty Blender is a rather expensive cosmetic sponge ($20 / each)  But it is worth every penny.  It lasts a long time, and it applies makeup flawlessly like you were airbrushed.  I seriously didn't know how I applied my foundation or BB Creams before I discovered the Beauty Blender.  Oh yeah, I used to use only my fingers and sometimes a foundation brush!  But I really prefer using this one compared to other tools.

So how to use it:

The purpose of this Beauty Blender is to push the right amount of makeup (Foundation or BB Cream) into your skin to get that flawless airbrushed look.  Rather than just having to swirl it around with your fingers or using a foundation brush to "paint" the product on to your face.

So the first step is to "wet" and "squeeze" the product under water several times until it gets rather bigger in size.

WET

SQUEEZE

REPEAT

The Beauty Blender will then grow a bit in size, and once it does, you have to squeeze it using a paper towel or a regular clean towel.

After the Beauty Blender is completely soaked, it should grow in size like this:

***The one on the left is the brand new never been soaked Beauty Blender, the one on the middle is the new Beauty Blender that has been soaked in water, and the one on the right is my 2 month old 'just-washed' Beauty Blender ***

So you all know that a sponge is designed to soak up liquid.  A cosmetic sponge however is created to soak up very little product, so that it is easier for you to build up the foundation without getting too much product on your face immediately that you suddenly end up looking like a powdery dessert.

With a Beauty Blender, it pushes just the right amount of makeup in you face, and because it has been saturated with water, it doesn't absorb much foundation/bb cream, and it also helps in pushing the liquid makeup into your face.

So here is a little comparison with a Foundation brush application vs. Beauty Blender application:

Using a Beauty Blender:

Using a Foundation Brush:

So as you can see, the foundation brush application still has a nice finish, but it does look like you have foundation on.

As for the Beauty Blender application, it looks completely natural with a satin finish and is blended well in to the skin that it looks like you don't have any makeup on.  I often get comments telling me that I look airbrushed.

So bottomline, I highly recommend that every girl who loves makeup and likes to look flawless and natural should definitely have this in their makeup tools collection.

Original Beauty Blenders can be bought in Pure Beauty in Serendra, BGC or sometimes with legit online sellers who gets their products directly from the US and not anywhere else.
